About AFIR

SECRETARIAT

The Secretariat of the Asian Forum of Insurance Regulators (AFIR) is a permanent establishment of AFIR. Its main purpose is to handle routine works and maintain the normal operations of AFIR.


The function of the secretariat is (1)To promote the exchange and cooperation of regulators for the insurance industry in Asia by assisting the rotating Chairman in organizing AFIR annual conferences, technical symposiums, working group meetings, and other events; (2)to coordinate the contact and exchange between AFIR members and between the AFIR members and the rotating Chairman, request for and respond to member feedbacks on topics for discussion, thereby fostering mutual understanding and trust between insurance regulators in Asia; (3)to oversee the implementation of resolutions passed at AFIR annual conferences and work arranged by the rotating Chairman, and to promote a set of regulatory rules that is tailored to the specific features of the Asian insurance industry and of emerging markets; (4)to oversee the implementation of tasks recommended by task force. The Secretariat will organize and support task force to study topics of mutual interest to AFIR members; (5)to strengthen regulatory cooperation with other international organizations. Tasks include bolstering the ties and cooperation with International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank (WB), and other international organizations; (6) to build and maintain the official website for AFIR; (7)to assist the rotating Chairman in drafting the AFIR annual work report, which is to be submitted at annual conference for review and approval; (8) to prepare the annual budget for the Secretariat and manage the finances of the Secretariat; (9)to recruit and dismiss staff members of the Secretariat.
